Here is a list of what you should do during a Winter Power Outage while the power is being restored.

  1. Turn faucets to a trickle to help prevent pipes from freezing
  2. Wrap pipes in insulation or newspaper
  3. Open kitchen and bathroom cabinet doors to allow warmer air to circulate around plumbing
  4. Layer your clothing to include a couple pairs of socks, shirts and a hat that covers your ears
  5. Pile on the blankets and sleeping bags
  6. Running a bathtub of hot water draws in heat to the house
  7. Use towels to block drafts in your home
  8. Light a few candles in a safe location to add light and generate some heat
  9. Close all the doors in your home to keep heat in one living area
  10. Always have an emergency preparedness kit ready before the power goes out - this should include water, batteries, a flashlight, non-perishable food and a battery-powered radio
