Niagara Peninsula Energy Inc. (NPEI) is proud to have served as the primary sponsor of the recent residential tree giveaway program held by the City of Niagara Falls, helping bring 500 new trees to neighbourhoods across the city.

NPEI supported the City's Tree Giveaway initiative on May 30 at the Niagara Falls Farmer’s Market to provide one tree free of charge to eligible residential properties throughout Niagara Falls. Residents were offered a selection of tree species including Redbud, Sycamore, White Cedar, White Birch, Hackberry, Serviceberry and Black Cherry. The program is designed to enhance biodiversity, increase tree canopy coverage, and contribute to a greener and healthier community.

“Through the support of Niagara Peninsula Energy Inc, the Environmental Action Committee was able to distribute 500 native trees for free to residents of Niagara Falls, enhancing our urban forest on private property,” said Jeff Guarasci, Community Development Coordinator at the City of Niagara Falls. “We want to extend a special thank you to NPEI, who funded the event”.

As part of the initiative, the City plans to develop a GIS-based map showing the general locations of participating properties throughout Niagara Falls. The map will allow residents to visualize how the newly planted trees are contributing to the growth of the city's urban forest and creating a greener future across neighbourhoods citywide.

NPEI remains committed to supporting projects that strengthen the community, promote environmental responsibility and improve quality of life for residents across our service territories.
