On Friday, May 22, 2026, Niagara Peninsula Energy Inc. (NPEI) celebrated the groundbreaking of its new Spring Creek Transformer Station in Lincoln, marking a major infrastructure investment designed to support the region’s continued growth and provide reliable electricity service for years to come.

The ceremony brought together project partners, municipal and provincial representatives, industry leaders and NPEI employees to mark the beginning of construction on the new facility, which will help meet increasing electricity demand from residential, commercial and industrial development across the area.

Once completed, the new transformer station will enhance system reliability, increase capacity and strengthen the local electrical grid to ensure customers have access to safe, dependable power as the community continues to grow.

“The Spring Creek Transformer Station represents one of the most significant infrastructure investments in NPEI’s history and demonstrates our commitment to supporting the rapid growth taking place across Lincoln and the surrounding region,” said Igor Rusic, President and CEO of NPEI. “This project will ensure we continue delivering safe, reliable and resilient electricity service to our customers while preparing our system for future residential, commercial and industrial growth.”

Construction of the more than $35 million Spring Creek Transformer Station will begin immediately and is expected to be completed in 2029. Black and McDonald, a Canadian company, was selected to build the new transformer station.

“We are proud to partner with Niagara Peninsula Energy Inc. on a project that supports the continued growth of the Lincoln community,” says Alec Davis, Project Manager for Black and McDonald. “The Spring Creek Transformer Station represents a meaningful investment in critical infrastructure and helps ensure reliable power for homes and businesses for the future. Our team at Black & McDonald is focused on delivering it safely, efficiently, and to the highest standard.”

Town of Lincoln Mayor Sandra Easton emphasized the importance of the project in supporting local growth and economic development.

“Today’s groundbreaking marks an important investment in the future of Lincoln and West Niagara,” said Mayor Easton. “As our communities grow, projects like the Spring Creek Transformer Station are essential to ensuring we have the infrastructure in place to meet current energy demands, support new residential and industrial development and strengthen long-term economic prosperity across the region. We are proud to partner with Niagara Peninsula Energy on an initiative that will help power our communities for generations to come.”

The project reflects NPEI’s ongoing commitment to investing in critical infrastructure that supports reliability, resilience and long-term energy needs for the communities it serves.
